How to Get Rid of Chipmunks in the House
Chipmunks rarely enter a home with the intent of creating an area to live. These little rodents prefer to live in burrows outside. It is not uncommon, however, for a chipmunk to accidentally enter a home because its burrow is beneath the step or foundation. If a chipmunk is inside of your house, it will not want to remain there. These rodents are not like mice or rats or even squirrels. Chipmunks prefer to live outside. If one is running around inside the house you need to get it out before it injures itself. Weather permitting, open all the windows and doors of the home. Gently guide the scared chipmunk toward one of the openings. If possible confine it to one room and leave it alone for a long period of time. The chipmunk will want to get out and will look for any escape. Once the animal is out of the home, you need to figure out how it got inside to begin with. If the chipmunk truly entered through an opening in the exterior of the home this opening needs to be found and sealed or other animals will venture in. Mice and rats can take advantage of the same holes chipmunks do and those rodents will be much less forgiving toward the interior of a home.

How to Get Rid of Chipmunks in the Attic
If you're hearing a lot of noise in your attic, chances are it is not a chipmunk. Chipmunks do not often live inside homes. They prefer the cool dirt of underground burrows. They will often live under steps and in foundation cracks, but chipmunk rarely make an attic their home. If you're absolutely certain it is a chipmunk living in your attic, the best means of removal is to trap the animal in a cage trap. Cage traps can be baited with sunflower seeds and fruit and left along the walls and beams of the attic. Chipmunks will travel a route over and over again, so look for tell-tale sign like feces and urine. Before you trap the chipmunk, you need to find out where it entered the home. If you don't repair this hole, no matter how tiny or inaccessible, more chipmunks or other animals will find their way inside. Chipmunk issues can progress into rat or squirrel issues. Larger rodents will not hesitate to kill a chipmunk and take over its territory.
